What Are RC Drifting Cars

Posted on March 21, 2025 By admin No Comments on What Are RC Drifting Cars

RC drifting refers to the act of drifting with a radio-controlled car. Drifting RC cars have low-traction tires. This helps to maintain controlled over-steering. A drifting RC racing car is often modified to allow it. The motor on drifting RC cars is replaced as well as the shocks, tires, brakes, and several other items. Radio-controlled drifting is typically performed with four-wheel drive electric RC cars. There has been a shift toward the use of Nitro RC cars. These drifting RC cars are outfitted with rear-wheel drive.

There are several popular RC drifting techniques. Some are easy to learn but some are more intensive to learn. Drivers of the drifting RC cars need to see which one suits their styles the best. Before getting to the techniques of driving, the hobbyist should get their own car. This allows the car to be altered to fit the driver and their needs.

The heel and toe shifting approach might be the most widely used. This is because it is also required. It is a basic maneuver. Another basic technique is the clutch kick drift. It is used when the RC driver comes to a turn. The driver holds the clutch while the rpm is increased and the RC car is down-shifted. The driver has to immediately release the clutch. It allows for a power surge that makes the rear tires lose their grip.

The choku-dori approach, in drifting, is also referred to as swaying drifts. In this maneuver the drift begins on a long and straight approach to turns. As the car starts to drift, the RC car driver has to use steering to maintain the drift. The driver does this by steering side-to-side. This makes the car sway from its back-end.

The dirt drop drifting technique makes drifting cars drop their rear tires off the race track. This method is used to maintain speed through several turns. The drift angle may be increased during a single turn. This is highly effective and a bit of an advanced move.

When looking for power in drifting RC, drivers can try the power over drift technique. The drift driver has to accelerate into and throughout the entire turn. This makes the back-end of the RC swing out as the weight shifts on the exit of the turn. This technique requires more horsepower than most maneuvers.

The emergency brake drift is a common technique when drifting. The driver enters a turn, then pulls the emergency brake. This locks the back wheels. The driver steers into the turn and the back-end of the car swings out.
